Am I Invisible

Just finished this painting and had a lot of fun doing it.
The water and the pelican's body are collaged with cut pieces of plastic bags to promote awareness of the plastic problem we face today. So many animals are ingesting it and dying. It's important to contain your trash and make sure not to litter. If you have to use plastic recycle it. I rode my bike to a nearby spring yesterday and it was sad to see peoples trash all over the sand banks...it's important to take what you bring in and if you see extra trash just pick it up too. Gotta keep our World Clean!!!!

She's Keepin it Real by Modern Epiphanies

Here is an awesome write up on me from Modern Epiphanies!

Do you dig abstract paintings full of color, layered with images of words, layered with images of numbers? Are paintings with texture your bag? Are you foaming at the mouth to see some works of art brave enough to combine watercolors and spray paint? In addition to ink, acrylic and oils? If you can’t picture what I’m talking about, below are just a few examples.

The artist is Sophia Buddenhagen.
“When I work with my various media I am reminded that each layer, color and stroke is a layer of moment in time, whether it being now, the future or the past.”
Born in Germany, Sophia is currently a resident Houstonian and, therefore, on our radar. She earned her Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas, although much of Sophia’s work is surf-inspired. She says she’s heavily influenced by her travels. Sophia begins each piece with a white-wash, followed by a watercolor wash.
Once she’s happy with the balance created, Sophia layers.
“I create the work I do to reflect upon my life, current, past, future experiences, thoughts, dreams and imaginations. I go through my process of layers, mediums and colors in hopes that the viewer can enjoy what I put into it and get something out of it. My goal is to continue keeping it real.”
And she is. We think so, at least. Sophia layers her paintings because everyone has layers. The letters and numbers signify events, codes, or moments in time.
“I am continually evolving my work. I am always pushing my boundaries. I continue to explore the meaning of my work and how I approach the subject.”
Maybe it is all about the layers. The pieces speak for themselves, but they also speak to the audience. They’re simple and complex in the same breath; something not easy to achieve, but she gets there. Or maybe it’s her color-choices. Whatever the winning combination, Sophia has discovered it.
“I believe art is a way to help people learn more about themselves and expand upon their creativity and to become more aware of their world and people around them.”
You can see more of Sophia Buddenhagen’s work here on her website, or follow her on Facebook. We are impressed. We think you’ll be, too.

Sandalista Flip Flops

Sandalista was started by a group of footwear professionals, who have worked for, and with, some of most respected footwear companies in the world. Taking a chance, we broke away and formed Sandalista around the idea of leading sandals into a new dimension- self expression. We are located in Southern California, where we print and assemble each Sandalista sandal.
